Recertification
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and consumer Services regulates the certification of pesticide applicators. To maintain certification, commercial applicators must be recertified every two years. Applicators may be recertified by attending a fully-approved category-specific recertification session once every two years.

Continuing Education
The following courses and appropriate CEU credits have been approved by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Approved for recertification credit in the following category or categories.
- 1-A (01) Agricultural Plant pest control
- 7-A (07) General pest control (including food processing and excluding fumigation)
- 7-B (13) Wood destroying pest control (excluding fumigation)
- Registered Technician (60) (for those applicators working in the appropriate category)
Commercial Applicators
Commercial applicators may be recertified in specific categories by successfully completing the following list of certification requirements given below.
Registered Technicians (Category 60)
Registered Technicians (Category 60) should fulfill the category requirements above as appropriate for their work area. Applicators that hold more than one category (e.g. 7-A and 7-B) need to meet the requirements specific to each category. For example, if an applicator meets the requirements for 7-A, he would need to add only one additional pest-specific course from those listed to recertify in 7-B as well.

Applicators that hold more than one category (e.g. 7-A and 7-B, need to meet the requirements specific for each category. For example, if an applicator meet the requirements for 7-A, he would need to add only one additional pest specific course from those listed to recertify in 7-B as well.
Commercial applicators may recertify by successfully completing the following list of category requirements:
Category 1-A (Agricultural Plant Pest Control)
To satisfy Category 1-A you need ALL Core + 1 from each Elective Group (There is no need to duplicate courses, the course will count for each category).
Core
Elective Group 1-A
Choice of ONE (1) of the following:
- Grasshoppers on Pastures and Rangeland
- Insect Pests That Attack Cotton – The Boll Weevil
- Insect Pests That Attack Cotton – The Cotton Fleahopper
- Know Your Cotton Plant
- The Greenbug
- Sorghum Midge
Elective Group 2-A
Choice of ONE (1) of the following:
- Facets of Integrated Pest Management in Field Crops
- Principles of Integrated Pest Management in Field Crops
Elective Group 3-A
Choice of ONE (1) of the following:
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Its Role in Pesticide Application
- The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
Category 7-A (General Pest Control)
To satisfy Category 7-A you need ALL Core + each Elective Group (There is no need to duplicate courses, the course will count for each category).
Core
Elective Group 1-A
Choose TWO (2) of the following:
- Identifying Cockroaches In and Around the Home
- Life History and Habits of Carpenter Ants
- Fleas: Life Cycle, Habits and Control
Elective Group 2-A
Choice of ONE of the following:
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Its Role in Pesticide Application
- The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
Category 7-B (Wood Destroying Pest Control)
To satisfy Category 7-B you need ALL Core + each Elective Group (There is no need to duplicate courses, the course will count for each category).
Core
Elective Group 1-A
Choice of TWO (2) of the following:
- Beetles that Attack Wood: Identifying Beetles That Will Reinfest
- Beetles that Attack Wood: Identifying Beetles That Will Not Reinfest
- The Eastern Subterranean Termite
- Life History and Habits of Carpenter Ants
Elective Group 2-A
Choice of ONE (1) of the following:
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Its Role in Pesticide Application
- The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
Note: In 7-A Elective group 1 has the EPA, and in 7-B Elective group 2 has the EPA. This course would satisfy both categories requirement.
